The Programme
INFLA-CARE (Inflammation and Cancer Research in Europe) is a four year collaborative research programme, funded by the European Commission, which aims to develop new diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies for malignancies associated with chronic inflammation. This project will employ state-of-the-art pre-clinical models and cutting-edge technologies to characterize in detail the interactions between the tumour and its inflammatory microenvironment and to examine the role of inflammation-activated signal transduction in liver, lung and colorectal carcinogenesis. The acquisition of this type of knowledge should make a positive impact on the development of targeted therapeutic strategies and the definition of new disease biomarkers leading to improved prophylactic care.
The 21 member consortium of INFLA-CARE comprises expert scientists and clinicians from Europe and Israel and is coordinated by the Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology in Heraklion, Greece.
